Oslofjord
Type of Region: Bioregion
The Oslofjord Bioregion, centered around Norway’s capital, is a unique coastal area where urban development and rich natural environments coexist. It includes multiple municipalities and a network of waterways managed through detailed land and marine planning to support sustainability. The region faces challenges from heavy ship traffic and pollution, including marine litter and environmental contaminants, which are closely monitored alongside efforts to control the spread of non-native species. Wastewater treatment plants and river inflow programs work to maintain water quality, while seabed monitoring provides important data on habitat health. At the same time, the area preserves cultural heritage and promotes outdoor recreation, reflecting a balanced approach. The Bioregional Innovation Hub aims to activate the ecosystem bridging theory and circular best practice.
