DESCRIPTION
Remontér Attføring AS is a Norwegian social enterprise dedicated to creating inclusive job opportunities through circular economy principles. The initiative addresses two main problems: social exclusion from the workforce (especially for people with reduced work capacity) and the environmental impact of waste and resource depletion.
Remontér tackles these challenges by offering meaningful employment in activities that directly support the circular economy—such as upcycling, reuse, and recycling. They run a reuse shop for children’s clothes, a carpentry workshop using reclaimed materials, textile upcycling, and secure document shredding. Their logistics and packing services help local businesses operate sustainably. All activities are designed to build participants’ skills and confidence, offering a pathway back into the open labor market.
The main challenges include stigma around supported employment, securing stable demand for upcycled products, and ensuring financial sustainability in a competitive sector. Remontér overcomes these by building strong local partnerships, focusing on quality, and integrating employment support with practical, market-relevant work.
The initiative is replicable and scalable, as it leverages local resources, addresses universal social and environmental needs, and can be adapted to different contexts.
